It’s that time of year again. Christmas lights are adorning homes and the tree goes up shortly after. You might have treasured memories around this time of year from your childhood. Can you think back and imagine when the tree was decorated and all you can see was the twinkle of the tinsel or garland?
In my family, once the tree was decorated, my brother and I would crawl under and look upwards. We’d stay there for at least an hour watching the lights glow against the sparkling ornaments and the lights twinkle. Our eyes were wide as we took it all in. Afterwards, we would read the Christmas story as our parents would remind us that Jesus is the reason for the season.
Of course, as most of us grow older, we stop lying under the tree and start focusing on the Christmas to-do list. Cookies must be baked, gifts must be shopped for, and numerous holiday parties scheduled. We suddenly lose sight of the wonder we had as children.
This Christmas, we invite you to awaken the wonder. Christmas is a reminder of God with us, His promises for us and great love for this world. We celebrate the birth of Jesus because he is wonderful. I’m reminded of the wonder of Christmas when I read Luke 2: 13-14,
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared
with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Through our series this Christmas, we’ll be going through the ways you can awaken the wonder this season. Here’s what we’ll be focusing on:
So, take some time to slow down this season. Awaken the wonder of Christmas, take peace in His promises and celebrate the good news of God with us.
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
