Baptism

Go public with your faith

New Life Begins Here

Jesus calls every person to do three things: repent, believe, and be baptized. At New Life, we set aside the first Sunday of every month for water baptism. We invite new believers to join a First Steps class and find a mentor to prepare for baptism.

Why Should I Be Baptized?

The answer is simple; because Jesus commanded us to! To understand more about baptism, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with Romans 6:1-4.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

I Was Baptized as a Baby. Should I be Baptized Again?

Baptism is a public declaration of your love for Jesus and signifies that you have died to your old self and sin, emerging as a new creation. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you should follow in his steps and be baptized regardless of age.

Jesus himself was baptized and then commands us to do the same.

Whether you were baptized as a baby, or you’ve never taken the step before, prayerfully consider taking the step to outwardly declare your faith. Your baptism is your public statement of following Jesus and should not be taken lightly. It should be a moment for you to reflect on all Jesus has done in your life, transforming you into a new creation.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

How Should I Prepare for Baptism?

Baptism is a joyful occasion for you and those who will be celebrating with you. For some, it may be hard to share with family and friends, but know that God is with you in this. If you’ve accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, and are ready to be baptized, talk to a mentor, group leader, or pastor about it, who can lead you in the steps to baptism and pray with you.
