Fellowship

Members with One Another

To be fully devoted one must connect in community with others. You might have heard the word “fellowship” in church or even in your daily reading. Fellowship is essential to your faith walk. It means to be sharing your life with other Christians you are in community with. In fact, this is modeled for us in Acts 2:42:

“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

If you have experience fellowship in your community, you know what a blessing it can be in your life. Although one of the biggest reasons Christians fall out of fellowship is because of busy schedules. The Bible warns against this in Hebrews 13:16.

“And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

Much like your daily time in the Word, you must make fellowship a priority. True fellowship is making time to walk with other Christian brothers and sisters, being vulnerable and open, to help those relationships grow. This can be scary for some who may not be used to these type of friendships, but this kind of deep fellowship can help us grow in our faith and deepen our walk with Christ.

Here are four ways you can set aside that important time.

1. Attend Church Every Week

One of the simplest steps can often be the hardest to commit to. Attending church weekly is a great way to grow in fellowship with your church community. Gathering together for worship and prayer in your larger community is essential. It's also a great way to introduce yourself to others and meet more people in your church. Make weekly church attendance a priority, because your presence is as much of a blessing as others are to you!

2. Find A Life Group

Life Groups are a great way to grow deeper in your walk with Christ and in fellowship with others. Most groups meet on a weekly basis outside of your usual church service to gather, maybe share a meal and dive into God’s Word together. Life Groups are safe places to share your struggles and praises together.

3. Serve Together

We know that God has given each of us a unique gift to share with others. There are many areas where you can serve in your church right now. In doing so, you’ll meet others who may have similar interests that you can share together as you serve together. Ask about what areas of ministry might have needs at your location.

4. Prayer With Others

Uniting in prayer brings us closer together as believers, so attending a prayer meeting is a great way to grow in fellowship with others. Praying together is deep and intimate. As Matthew 18:20 says:

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Finally, reflect on this verse this week as you pray about opportunities where you can grow in fellowship with others.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
