Secular sociologists and would whole-heartedly agree. Our biological families strongly SHAPE our worldview, traditions, language, and culture both in positive and negative ways.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not surprise that the scriptures refer to us as brothers and sisters in the family of God.\u00a0 As Christians, we hear the phrase spiritual family but our outworking of that biblical truth is sadly not practically experienced by many yet desired by most. Jesus set the bar high with certain statements he made concerning following him.<\/p>\n\n<p>It cost the disciples greatly to follow after Jesus but they received something greater in the place of what they gave up&#8230;a spiritual family.\u00a0 All over the world, the above scriptures are as true today as they were for the first century disciples.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure we have truly experienced this like we could.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s a commitment &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Spiritual families would make a covenant commitment to family life for 18-36 months for the sake of building intimacy and stability in all areas of life (S.H.A.P.E.).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spiritual families made up by affinity<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; college students, families with children, empty nesters, singles, new married couples.\u00a0 Ideally, spiritual families would be arranged by triads (groups of 3).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Its<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>close proximity<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Life would be done in the same home, same building, same street, same block.\u00a0 Main reason for this would be for the ease of doing effective and daily ongoing ministry and service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Its ongoing and daily &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>I would advocate for &#8220;one touch&#8221; a day.\u00a0 Examples: Morning prayer, evening meal, game night, MC, special outing, house\/block service project, play time together, scripture share and or study, exercise time together, worship time together etc.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/newlifecommunity.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Cross-Walk-Application-.pdf\" target=\"_self\" role=\"button\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDOWNLOAD APPLICATION\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/newlifecommunity.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Mentor-Application.doc\" target=\"_self\" role=\"button\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMENTOR APPLICATION\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newlifecommunity.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/shape.png\" alt=\"shape\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"234\" width=\"1200\" title=\"shape\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>We use the acronym of\u00a0<strong>S.H.A.P.E.<\/strong>\u00a0to provide a foundation of holistic\u00a0discipleship.\u00a0<strong>S.H.A.P.E.<\/strong>\u00a0is applied through different channels, activities,discussions and studies depending on the CrossWalk family. However, it will extend the entire duration of the program and be broken down into 3 six-month phases\u00a0within each CW family.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Spiritual &#8211; &#8220;Connecting to Christ&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This movement focuses on helping our disciples to mature in the spiritual disciplines of\u00a0prayer, meditation, worship, fasting, and studying the scriptures.<\/p>\n\n<h2><strong>Heart &#8211; &#8220;Connecting to a Call&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This movement focuses on guiding our disciples in finding their place and purpose in\u00a0God&#8217;s kingdom.<\/p>\n\n<h2><strong>Aptitude &#8211; &#8220;Connecting to a Career&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This movement focuses on training our disciples to identify their natural abilities and\u00a0strengths and moves them towards careers in those fields.<\/p>\n\n<h2><strong>Physical &#8211; &#8220;Connecting to a Condition&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This movement focuses on training our disciples establish and maintain a healthy diet\u00a0and regular exercise routine.<\/p>\n\n<h2><strong>Emotional &#8211; &#8220;Connecting to Community&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This movement focuses on helping our disciples develop healthy relational skills.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CROSSWALK A spiritual family committed to live in close proximity and practice natural family rhythms together like feasting, playing, praying, and celebrating on a regular basis.
