Was Jesus a historical figure, in your opinion? Why or why not?<\/p>\n<p>2. Read Mark 14:61-62. What is Jesus&#8217; response to the high priest?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, \u201cAre you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?\u201d 62 And Jesus said, \u201cI am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>3. Read Matthew 16:13-16. How does Peter respond to Jesus&#8217; question? How would you respond to this question?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, \u201cWho do people say that the Son of Man is?\u201d 14 And they said, \u201cSome say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.\u201d 15 He said to them, \u201cBut who do you say that I am?\u201d 16 Simon Peter replied, \u201cYou are the Christ, the Son of the living God.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FjDPkDEGPqk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch the video above then discuss as a group:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4. \u201cReligion says \u2018I do, therefore I\u2019m loved.\u2019 Jesus says, \u2018You\u2019re loved, therefore you do\u2019\u201d? In your own words, what do you think he means?<\/p>\n<p>5. Christians believe that sin separates humanity from God. Yet Jesus, through his death, bridges that gap. Why do you think Jesus had to die in order to accomplish this?<\/p>\n<p>6. What would it take for you to leave everything behind for something you believe in? So much that you would leave the comforts of your home, the location you grew up, your job, your family, etc.?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fashionable to suggest that Jesus was a good teacher, a man with an important message of love, and that\u2019s all. He wasn\u2019t God; that\u2019s impossible. However, the problem with that perspective is that he claimed to be God. (In John 10:30, Jesus said, \u201cI and the Father are one.\u201d) Consequently, in C. S. Lewis\u2019s words, Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord. Furthermore, assuming that he lived, he also predicted his death and resurrection. Then hundreds of witnesses claimed he fulfilled that prediction and indeed rose from the dead.
