11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
REFLECT
Joy sets Christ-followers apart. In verse 11, David writes that even those who come to the Father seeking refuge have reason to rejoice. Why? Because, even in our weakness, the Lord looks on the faithful with favor. To the lost sheep, God offers his rod. To the defenseless, he promises a shield. To all the righteous, he gives his peace and presence. When joy feels impossible and circumstances are bleak, the Shepherd –our protector – lifts our heads.
RESPOND
You know better than anyone what I am running from, Lord. Under your wings, I have sought refuge from familial hurt, broken friendships, work conflict, and all the lies I rehearse in my head. Still, you have never left my side. You have kept me secure with every hit – confident and comforted by my identity and future in you. God, give me the perseverance to choose joy when hope is hard to find. Amen.
