Day 14 – 1 Peter 3:8-9

READ

8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

REFLECT

While disagreements in the church are unavoidable, deep-set division can be avoided. Throughout the Bible, believers are called to look humbly upon our brothers or sisters in Christ. Loving them despite differences of opinion, conviction, or preference. Ultimately, unity (like-mindedness) is impossible without Christ-like compassion. For, above all things, his mind, ways, heart, and Gospel unify all who believe.

RESPOND

Like-mindedness comes easy when the other person is like me, Lord. Give me compassion and patience for those with whom I share my faith but not all my opinions. Make clear to me the incomparable value of our shared hope in you. As I handle disagreements, grant me discernment. Give me an open mind to hear new perspectives and acknowledge my failings. Let me be an agent of unity. Amen.
