Day 5 – Hebrews 5:11-14

READ

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

REFLECT

Spiritual maturity is the goal of the Christian walk. However, many believers stall their growth – languishing in the shallow waters of belief rather than ever diving into deep faith. That type of believer finds satisfaction in what the writer of Hebrews calls the Bible's “elementary truths.” However, growing in knowing God’s word beyond what first drew you to salvation is the key to discerning good from evil.

RESPOND

Lord, 2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is God-breathed and good for "teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." Despite having access to a well of wisdom, I so often run to lesser advisors. When I run to your word, I am satisfied knowing just a fraction of its wonders – the milk but no solid food. I am ready to grow in discernment and grace. God, I pray today for understanding. Amen.
