Week 10: Leading When You’re Not In Charge

Gathering Type: Large Group, In-Person

Podcast: Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast

Episode: "Leading Up When You're Not In Charge"

Description: You do not have to be in charge in order to lead. There are two types of power: positional power and personal power. Positional power is power based on someone's title or experience, but personal power is based on what a group thinks about a person. Even if you lack positional power, you can lead up by serving up! If you want influence, care about people. Love them. Help them improve.

Discussion Questions (a resource from the Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast. Download the full leader guide here.):

  1. Of the five factors (honor, timing, motives, initiative, and truth), which one do you need to grow in the most? What is one practical thing you can do this week to improve in that area?

  2. What is one area where you see potential for improvement in your organization? How can you lead up to make it happen?

  3. If you're a point leader, what is a specific area or responsibility where you need to give up control to empower your team to lead up?
